Two Heads are better than One

A header by Mel Waters in the first half and the game winning header by Tori Luc in the 98th minute resulted in a win for the Lady Cougars. The game was highlighted by stellar goal keeping by Casey Smith, great mid-field play by Kirstin Dedrickson and Lauren Kelm just being Lauren Kelm. Most impressive to me was the 'point blank' save by Rachel Cox. Congrats Lady Cougars.

Golden Goal Game Winner!!!!!!!!

CHS (2) Southern (1) Overtime victory!

A light rain began to fall as game time approached. The evening turned out to be very cool and damp. The game started with a bang as a flurry of activity from both teams, both teams defense and goal keepers were tested. Chesapeake started the scoring on the evening with an excellent set play that even had the camera man slow to react (Sorry Mel). The quick restart by Jaclyn Ward sent a beautiful chipped ball into the box.......Melanie Waters capitalized on the well placed ball with a header into the back of the net to beat the Southern keeper. Later in the first half a corner kick played in by Southern resulted in an own goal by Chesapeake. The 1 -1 dead lock remained in tact for the balance of the first half and thru the entire second half of play. Both keepers were tested in the second half of play, but held strong.
The end of regulation play...................... on to the the overtime play. Overtime rules are a maximum of two 10 minute golden goal periods of play.
A quick break by the teams and the game was back on, scoring opportunities came for both teams in the first period of play. The ten minute period of play ended with the game still tied.
One last quick break by the teams and the second overtime period begins. A quick early strike by the Cougars in the first minute of play almost ended the game but the Seahawk defense stood up to that challenge. As time was winding down in the second overtime period the crowd @ CHS grew as the men's game was set to be played at the conclusion of the ladies game. With less then two minutes to play in the match Chesapeake was awarded a corner kick, the kick was sent in by Nikkie Forrester. Melanie Waters managed to get a head on the ball however the Seahawk defense was able to clear the ball away from danger. There clear resulted in another corner kick for the Cougars. Again Nikki Forrester sent the cross into the box, this time Melanie Waters and a Southern defender managed to get a foot on the ball. As Southern expected the ball to be cleared again over the end line Melanie Waters exploded to the ball and managed to head the ball toward the face of the goal. Chesapeake had players staked out across the face of the goal in hopes of a rebound. Tori Luc managed to be in the right place and was able to out leap the Southern defender to head the ball into the back of the net. When then heard the now famous voice of the Women's Soccer team play announcer Jamie Lledo.....Gooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaall!!!!!
The contest ends with the ladies earning the victory.

CHS (0) South River (2)

Monday October 12th the South River Seahawks came to Chesapeake for the 7pm game. A contest that proved to be very tough and physical. The Seahawks managed to post two goals against the Cougars. This proved to be enough on the night as Chesapeake just could not get the attack going. Another tough hard fought loss for ladies, next up Southern Wednesday night

Cross the Line??? you be the judge

Excellent play play Chesapeake attacking the Arundel goal. Hard hit at the end resulted in a stoppage of play for 5 minutes or more. Tori returned to the filed late in the second half as Chesapeake scrambled to try and score an equalizing goal.

CHS (1) Arundel (2)

The Chesapeake Cougars played the Arundel Wildcats on Thursday evening October 8th @ the Wildcats home field. Going into the contest Arundel was undefeated in play this year. Chesapeake gave them a run for there money playing the Wildcats tough the entire game. In the end 2-1 the final score in favor of the Wildcats. The high power attack unit of the Wildcats was held in check most of the game with terrific defensive plays for the entire unit. Up next South River on Monday

CHS vs. Severna Park 5 - 0 Loss

This game occurred two weeks ago at the Falcons home field in Severna Park. As there team name suggests The Falcons played swiftly and accurately. They registered the 5 - 0 win handing Chesapeake its first defeat in County play. One thing can be said about the entire group of ladies......they never gave up! Not until the final whistle blew they continued to give it there all.

So I miss my first game in two years and it has to be one of the most exciting. Congrats to the TEAM and Coaches. I'm most impressed with the conditioning of the players, that is there ability to work as hard in the 75th minute as they do in the very beginning. Tori I'm sorry I missed your now famous 'ninja chop' but am looking forward to seeing it in a future game.

To my Son Tommy - THANKS for taking this BLOGSPOT Management on, it gives me the ability to share it with all of my HOOSIER relatives.

CHS Ladies Soccer wishing you the very best of LUC for the remainder of the season.
